About Γεωργία Μηττάκη
Γεωργία Μηττάκη {Yiorghia Mittaki} (1911-1977) was a Greek singer. She was born in Avlonas, Attica, Greece ;in 1929, at the age of eighteen, she moved to live in Athens. In 1930 she married the Cretan Γεώργιος Μηττάκης, from whom she gained the surname under which she became known professionally.. She worked in various popular-music clubs, such as Έλατο and Αράχωβα, and worked with leading musicians such as Νίκος Καρακώστας and Κώστας Γιαούζος. In the early 1950s she toured Egypt, and in the late 1950s she twice toured the U.S., receiving a warm welcome from expatriate Greeks. While in the U.S. she made a number of recordings.. In 1965 she made her final recordings before retiring for health reasons. She died on the 28th February 1977 in her home town of Avlonas .
