About Gareth Flowers

Gareth Thomas Flowers is a trumpeter from Arlington, VA based in the New York City area. He performs mostly in contemporary classical and commercial settings, and increasingly performs in electro-acoustic settings. After attending the Juilliard School, he received both a BM and MM with a focus on performance and music technology, he began performing locally with the International Contemporary Ensemble, earning a reputation in contemporary music that lead him to play with groups such as Camerata Pacifica, The Argento New Music Project and even the San Francisco Symphony, and Seoul Philharmonic. As a composer-performer, Gareth has performed his eccentric electro-acoustic works at the Clark Studio Theater of Lincoln Center as part of the Beyond the Machine festival, the Makor cafe, Yamaha Artist Services, and as part of the ICETank series at the 45th Street Theater. He formed the Batteries duo with Josh Frank in 2009, and they released their first record in July 2010, Les Amusements. He has recorded for duYun, Anthony Braxton, David Byrne, Philip Glass, Gabriel Kahane, Anthony Coleman, Lisa Bielewa, and many other fine musicians. Gareth looks forward to collaborating with friends at his home studio TheFlowerStudio, where he writes records electro-acoustic music in his free time. Spring 2011 looks forward to two more releases from Flowers, one of contemporary classical works for trumpet from a variety of composers including Matthias Pintscher and Peter Evans, the second an acousmatic complilation of solo electro-acoustic improvisations and electro-acoustic inventions for solo instruments.
