About Gabriel Yacoub
Gabriel Yacoub (born in Paris on 4 February 1952; died 22 January 2025) was a French musician remembered as a lead member of the French folk and folk-rock band Malicorne from its formation in 1973 and as a pioneer of the revival of traditional music in contemporary formats. He later played and recorded solo music, including featuring his own lyrics. In July 2013, Yacoub was honoured as an officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Born of a Lebanese father and a French mother, he was a guitarist and singer, and, with Marie Yacoub, was a founder member of folk/rock group Malicorne. With Malicorne, Gabriel played acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, epinette de Vosges and banjo, while Marie played electric dulcimer, bouzouki and hurdy-gurdy. They sang most of the lead vocals on the albums. In 1978, while Malicorne were at their peak, Gabriel recorded a solo album called "Trad. Arr.", which had English fiddler Barry Dransfield as a guest on it. His solo albums include Elementary Level of Faith, Bel, Quatre and Babel. His later albums include The Simple Things We Said (2002), Je vois venir... (2004), and De la nature des choses (2008). www.gabrielyacoub.com
