About Gloria Trevi

Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz (born February 15, 1968), known professionally as Gloria Trevi, is a Mexican singer, songwriter and actress. She is known for her emotional lyrics, performances, and lasting influence on Latin music, being dubbed the "Mexican Queen of Pop" by Rolling Stone. She is also known for the media coverage surrounding the Trevi–Andrade scandal, involving sexual abuse and forced labour led by her former manager-producer Sergio Andrade. At 15, she moved to Mexico City to study performing arts at Televisa's CEA. A year later, she met Sergio Andrade and joined his girl group Boquitas Pintadas, which disbanded after an unsuccessful album in 1985. Trevi recorded a demo in Los Angeles and later reconnected with Andrade to work as her manager and producer. She released ¿Qué Hago Aquí? (1989), which included her hit "Dr. Psiquiatra" and marked her breakthrough into fame. During the 1990s, she released a series of successful albums—Tu Ángel de la Guarda (1991), Me Siento Tan Sola (1992), Más Turbada Que Nunca (1994) and Si Me Llevas Contigo (1995)—featuring hits like "Pelo Suelto", "Zapatos Viejos" and "Con los Ojos Cerrados", which establish her as a sex symbol and pop icon in Latin America. In 1997, she retired from music and withdrew from public life with Andrade. During this period, a complaint was filed in Chihuahua involving allegations of sexual abuse, corruption of minors, and forced labour, following the disappearance of 17-year-old Karina Yapor and other young women. In January 2000, Trevi and Andrade were arrested in Rio de Janeiro. She spent nearly three years in pre-trial detention in Brazil before being extradited. In 2004, Trevi was tried and acquitted, while Andrade was convicted. Her life and career were dramatized in the 2014 biopic Gloria and the 2023 biographical television series Gloria Trevi: Ellas soy yo. Trevi resumed her career by releasing multiple albums, including Una Rosa Blu (2007), Gloria (2011), De Película (2013), El Amor (2015), Inmortal (2016) and Versus (2017; with Alejandra Guzmán), four of which topped the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart. She also achieved hits like "Todos Me Miran," "Cinco Minutos," and "No Querías Lastimarme", and collaborated with several artists such as Olga Tañón, Paulina Rubio, Karol G and Mon Laferte. Trevi has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling Latin music artists. She is one of the best-selling Latin touring acts of the 21st century. In 2018, she was inducted to the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame. She was also listed among Billboard's best female Latin pop artists of all time in 2025.
