About Güher & Süher Pekinel

Guher and Suher Pekinel are recognized worldwide as a most exceptional Duo of artistry and magnetism. Their performances in recital and with leading orchestras including Berlin,Vienna, New York, London, Israel Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France and Tokyo are considered to demonstrate extraordinary musicality, keyboard command and unanimity of style and execution. As twins sitting "back to back", they are the only Duo, playing without any eye contact, to deepen their "breath of musical momentum". Born in Istanbul, the Pekinels first appeared in public at the age of six and three years later made their orchestral debut with the Ankara Philharmonic. Beginning their studies at Conservatoire de Paris, the Pekinels worked with piano legends like Rudolf Serkin, Claudio Arrau and Mieczyslaw Horszowski at the Curtis Institute and Juillard School in New York. At the age of 18, the Pekinels shared the first prize at the German National Piano Competition as soloists, followed by several first prizes in International Competitions for solo and duo in Germany, Italy and USA, including the first prize representing Germany at the UNESCO World Piano Competition. Their extensive discography includes recordings of the most important duo-piano literature with DGG, Teldec, CBS and Chandos. Their last recording in collaboration with Jacques Loussier of Bach two and three piano concertos released as "Take Bach" by Teldec has reached record sales worldwide and has recently been reissued by Warner Classics in the APEX series. The Pekinels' new recording of complete Bach two and three piano concertos with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and Howard Griffiths will be released February 2005 followed by their newly recorded recital programme of Brahms and Saint-Säens works in summer 2005. Warner Classics will also re-issue the Pekinels' complete catalogue on CD by the end of 2005. After their last season's successful tour with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic and their tour with Zurich Chamber Orchestra with Howard Griffiths in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, the Pekinels began their new season concerts in Berlin's Philharmonie with Deutsche KammerPhilarmonie under Paavo Järvi toured Switzerland in November 2004. They will be performing in Zurich, Bern, Lugano, Basel and London to present their new Bach recording.
