About From A Fountain
http://fromafountain.com/about http://shop.fromafountain.com http://facebook.com/fromafountain From a Fountain is the name for all varieties of music by Douglas Kirby. Kirby was in Philadelphia's National Eye for years and years, and is now firmly in coastal California - West Marin County. Full-lengths Milky Mile and Milky Mile Two are being released in the fall of 2013. An EP, called Rise, All You Moderns, was released May 2013. Shale and Sandstone, a debut full-length, came out 2010 on Park the Van Records. From a Fountain is composing and recording a two-and-a-half hour piece of music to chronicle the sun’s journey through the sky by day and the underworld by night - entitled Sun Ships. From a Fountain originally took form as the moniker for Kirby’s first album away from National Eye - Shale and Sandstone. It emerged from a series of piano meditations and evolved into 12 songs, richly arranged and adorned with cameos from Philadelphia luminaries such as Dr Dog’s Toby Lehman and the Spinto Band’s Nick Krill. A tour formed around Shale’s release, featuring a group of close friends from Kirby’s home state of South Dakota. Milky Mile and Milky Mile Two were begun in 2007-8 in South Dakota. Recording continued in a drafty desert house in Joshua Tree, California, and wrapped up in Northern California in 2010. Nick Krill mixed the recordings, and JJ Golden handled mastering. Extensive outtakes and bonus tracks are released via shop.fromafountain.com. Most importantly, Kirby is entering year three of re-animating an ancient sun cycle mythology with his wife. The remnants of the myth come from northern Europe - what would become Scandinavia - circa 1500 B.C. What began as a simple, themed album has blossomed into the equivalent of three or four albums - Sun Ships. His wife is making vast amounts of art that accompany the music.
