From the Side began its life a solo project for Barry Preece, and quickly resulted in a debut album mastered by Steve Kitch of the Pineapple Thief. Barry is a musician who has played with various bands over a number of years (Five Kings, The Carpet Frogs and The Chilli Zeppers). In 2007, a request was made for a snippet of acoustic guitar music to be recorded and played for a wedding, which after some time writing ended up being "DD'd for a day", the first finished track for the debut album "Starting Point". The writing of this track also coincided with Barry's first exposure to Porcupine Tree, which has proved to be the start of a completely new avenue of music for him. The combination of this previously undiscovered genre of music and the excitement and exhilaration (and occasionly frustration) of writing has resulted in a great debut demo album. As suggested by the title of the first effot ("Starting Point"), this is only the beginning. Work on the second album is progressing well and more will become available from this developing artist/group in the near future
