About Friend Called Fred

Blues inspired Indie Rock is the best way to describe Friend Called Fred. Formed in early 2008 the Crewe based 4-peice has gradually built up a loyal fan base in their hometown. Originally formed by Ed and Jim with the intention of playing covers for their mates and messing around on a Thursday afternoon, Friend Called Fred soon realised there was more to this band business than that. They got their arses in gear, found a new drummer, and scraped together two or three songs. In February 2008 they took their first visit to the studio, recording their first few tracks. Gigging and practising throughout the next year lead to a new sound would develop with hints of The View, The Metros, The Beatles, The Strokes, The Wombats, Arctic Monkeys and The Police. Recently FCF supported NME-backed band The Perils and hope to play more shows all over North-West in the coming year. Front-man Alex Holsgrove said – “We’re inspired by so many bands and genres, from cutting edge indie, to blues and right through to jazz. We want to create a unique sound, but also use the best aspects of bands that inspire us and at the end of the day create music that makes you want to move”. Friend Called Fred are Alex Holsgrove on lead guitar, vocals, trumpet and piano, Kirk Taylor on drums and percussion, Jim Richards on bass, and Ed Collier on rhythm guitar.
