About Floriano Canale
Floriano Canale (also Canali or Canalis) (* before 1575 probably in or near Brescia ; † after 1612 probably in Brescia) was an Italian composer, organist and doctor. For a long time there was disagreement about Floriano Canale's origin. Numerous dedications and the titles of his works indicate that he was born in or near Brescia. He was a Canon Regular . From 1581 to 1603 he was organist in the convent of San Giovanni Evangelista in Brescia. He was probably also a doctor, since the dedication of the medical treatise De secreti universali raccolti et sperimentati is signed Da Brescia, 12 December 1612, Florian Canale . If both persons are identical - there is much to suggest that - Canale was still alive in December 1612. Canale was versatile. He wrote treatises on subjects related to medicine, agriculture, hunting, music and theology. He was a good musician and an excellent organist. Renzo Bragantini published a list of Canale's works in Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani [“Biographical Dictionary of the Italians”], Volume 17, 1974.
