Floating Death Picnic
About Floating Death Picnic
http://www.myspace.com/floatingdeathpicnic Floating Death Picnic = one man armed with a selection of boxes, dials, devices, a stylophone, a plank of wood and an excitable persona. He makes quirky electronic music whilst dancing, vocalising and interacting with his cheap devices. Floating Death Picnic’s early live shows were just him dancing and freestyling to vintage Commodore and Sega game music played on an mp3 player. It has now evolved into a lo-fi visual and aural experience to behold. FDP loves using samples of old school classic tracks, TV show music, transport sounds and generally anything that catches his ear. He turns these samples into peculiar pop anthems and showcases them at his live performances (where he drinks wine and dances too). His songs cover a range of highly important topics. For instance, FDP has songs about trams (specifically Sheffield’s Supertram), computer games, sporting events, cultural occurrences, politics and history (to name but several). His Supertram song got loads of hits on Youtube, and he was on the Toby Foster breakfast show sounding very bewildered indeed. Picnic attempts to dance (and is sure he is very good at some moves, but not all of them). It is a coherent yet shambolic one man quirky pop show. SO BASICALLY FLOATING DEATH PICNIC IS: NOT a DJ, NOT a conventional singer/songwriter, NOT a dancer. In fact, he’s barely even a musician really. He’s more of a peculiar electro-jester (not to pigeonhole this complex dude like!). Picnic is influenced by lots of things, e.g. Italian futurism, the KLF (very much so), Dadaism, Kraftwerk, the BBBs, Hollyoaks, Channel 4 Teletext, Jerry Jackson cartoons, Test Icicles, all genres of music, and loads of things that he’s seen and done. He is happy to make synthpop, chart pop, underground goth, Krautrap, whatever really. He never forgets the power of raw metal either, and has some of those tracks up his frilly sleeve! Floating Death Picnic plays boozers, bars, houses, flats, subways, streets and trains and trams. Wherever he is asked to play (unless he’s got prior commitments, because breaking them off would be rude), but in general, FDP IS READY TO PLAY TO YOU!
