About Bjarne Fiskum

Bjarne Fiskum (born August 27, 1939 in Harran) is a Norwegian violinist, conductor and composer. Following studies in Oslo, Stockholm, Vienna and Copenhagen, he joined the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 1960 for whom he debuted as a soloist in 1965. He established the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra in 1977. From 1977 to 1984 he was concertmaster of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. Since 1983 he has worked for the Department of Music at NTNU, where he is currently professor. Fiskum also taught at the Heimdal high school and played in the Hindar Quartet and the Trondheim Trio. He founded the Trondheim Soloists (1988) and was their artistic director until 2001. Fiskum released CDs with Jorgen Larsen, piano (Sonor Records, 2000), on which they perform works by César Franck, Fartein Valen, Bertil Palmar Johansen and Terje Bjorklund. Bjarne Fiskum is the son of bandleader Ottar Fiskum. In 2002 he became commander of the Order of St. Olav and in 2008 he won the South-Trøndelag County Culture prize with the Trondheim Soloists.
