About Ferdinand di Lasso

Ferdinand di Lasso (born 1560 in Munich; died 1609 ibid.) was a German composer of the High Renaissance. was born in 1560 as the son of Orlando di Lasso and his wife Regina (Wäckinger). He probably completed his musical education in his father's house, after all Orlando was the teacher of famous composers such as Giovanni Gabrieli or Ivo de Vento. He was integrated into the Munich Hofkapelle early on, as a full member he was employed in 1583. After his temporary service (1585–1590) with Count Eitel Friedrich IV of Hohenzollern-Hechingen, he returned to Munich to act as a "tenorist" in the reduced court chapel and then as its director in 1602. The heyday of the chapel was over, because Duke Wilhelm V only ordered church service, which then also explains the multitude of his spiritual compositions. He died after a prolonged illness in 1609 at the age of 49. He had a son Ferdinando di Lasso, thus a grandson of Orlando, who was Kapellmeister at the Duke's court in Munich from 1616 to 1629. He also composed and died in Reischach in 1636.
