About False Structures

False Structures formed out of the ashes of a previous local band called ” ‘the true’ Utgangen” (formed in 2005 based out of South Jersey, not to be confused with the California ‘Utgangen’). Comprising of the same core members the band had the same dynamic that Utgangen once did, yet over time these musicians learned how to appreciate the sounds that their instruments could give them and began to experiment with sounds. As a result of this experimentation their sound has vastly differed from their previous incarnation. The releases by False Structures were all live recordings of jam sessions with very minimal overdubs, due to there are only being two members making it hard to get the guitar, drums and bass all recorded in one take. The recording sessions for these releases were usually unplanned, impromptu performances that can vary between 2-3 times a month or 1-2 times every 2 months. Over time the recording quality and production (if you would call it that) had improved as a result of the trial and error process. The way that sessions were recorded was by setting up one microphone in a room, and having all musicians present play simultaneously in a live and energetic setting. The permanent members were Kevin T. Shedaker & William Kerrigan. Both members played each of the different instruments on different songs, with Kerrigan playing bass on one song while Shedaker drums or vice versa. The genre is hard to state because on each new recording there are very many new influences, this being said they can be labeled as simply alternative. False Structures had been on an on-again-off-again basis with its two core members until recently when the guys dusted off their instruments and decided to recruit a drummer and a second guitarist to form the very first ever full line up under the name. The current line up is as follows: William Kerrigan - Lead Guitar, Back Up Vocals & Songwriting Kevin T. Shedaker - Bass Guitar, Lead Vocals, Songwriting, (Occasional) Drum Arrangements & Rhythm Guitar Justin Traver - Drums, Drum Arrangements, Back Up Vocals, (Occasional) Acoustic Guitar & Songwriting James Cherubini - Rhythm Guitar, Back Up Vocals & Songwriting Over the time of its existence False Structures guest collaborators had been: Richard ‘Big Ric’ Singleton (Session Drums on Attic Sessions, Volume VI) Dylan Morgan (Session Guitar on Basement Sessions, Volume III) Martin Mazur, Jr. [2011-?] (Electronics on falsestructureslive, falsestructuresliive)
