The “Estoudiantina” orchestra is a revival of a type of orchestra which was created towards the end of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century. It was most popular in Constantinople and Smyrna and ceased to exist a short time after the evacuation of the Greek communities from these cities. The major part of the orchestra’s repertoire consists of previously recorded master pieces of those first “Estoudiantinas”.
