About Emma McGlynn & The Monorails
Emma McGlynn & The Monorails info 2005 More than a healthy number of songs about weapons and love. Old guitars tuned to unremembered notes. A drummer up to his eyeballs in 60’s beat, and soul records; and a bassist from the ‘less and loud is more’ school. Having been living in Madrid and singing for English/Spanish band Monotone, Emma returned to her hometown of London and found the musical landscape of boys with guitars in bands with other boys, rather stale. It wasn't a dislike of male fronted bands that inspired her, but a desire to engage with an audience in much the same way that female folk singers such as Joni Mitchell and modern performers like Ani Difranco and Polly Jean Harvey could achieve. Resolved to start her own label ‘Impatio Sound’ she set about recording her debut solo album consisting of nearly 10 years worth of material that she considered not suitable to share with her previous band. Wanting a regular group of collaborative musicians to be an integral part of the music she recruited Joe Jardine on bass and Kevin Behan on drums. Eventually the rhythm section demanded a piece of the glory and The Monorails were born. 2 years on, the label’s roster has doubled in size, with the addition of The High Wire; and work is under way on Emma McGlynn & The Monorails new album. Both The High Wire and Emma McGlynn & The Monorails albums will be released early 2006.
