About Emma Junaro

A Bolivian singer whose style is hard to describe - it's sort of folk music because of the acoustic guitars and the purity of her voice, yet it's sort of jazz in its innovation and accomplishment. It's sort of alternative in that it doesn't really fit with any tradition i can think of, yet it always feels grounded like roots music. An empathy with the common people of Bolivia pervades it, but the music never gets lost in the politics. Junaro has an amazing voice, which soars effortlessly, yet also gets into the small places of your heart. Her work ranges from settings of Bolivian folk songs to an album of songs all written by Matilda Casazola. If nothing else she proves Bolivia is not all about panpipes when it comes to music!
