About Elbury

Blending lyrical folk with hints of swing and blues, Elbury work to bring thought-provoking songs to an audience who are appreciative of strong melodies and warm guitar arrangements. Since their early writing sessions, Edward and Michael have drawn on their diverse musical interests to create an aural experience which has been praised by folk, blues and indie fans alike. In 2011, Elbury saw that it was time to expand their sound and started the search for a bass player. After a quick audition process, Edward and Michael quickly settled on the talents and low grooves of Tom Beith. As a song-writing team, Elbury plunder diverse literary sources for inspiration and try to find unique perspectives on the quirks, puzzles and tragedies of life and the human experience. This, as in all things creative, is a never-ending process! Elbury combine intricate finger-picking, deep bass grooves, considered arrangements and plaintive harmonies in a heartfelt performance which has brought forth both stunned silence and rousing applause from listeners. We hope you enjoy it! 2010 was a busy year for Elbury – the band quickly found their feet playing at venues such as: • Chalk Bar, Wooloongabba • Balcony 153, Brisbane City • Kitty O’Sheas, Caxton Street • Granite Belt Flavours Road Show held in the Formal Gardens, South Bank • Unplugged Cafe, Sandgate • Bleeding Heart Cafe, Brisbane City In November 2010, we emailed a demo of our track ‘1968’ (http://elburymusic.blogspot.com/2011/02/1968.html) to Matt Norman, director of the documentary ‘Salute’, to let him know that we had been inspired by the same events he had recently chronicled. Matt asked us if he could include our track on the official website for ‘Salute’ (http://www.salutethemovie.com/) as it was released across the US, during Black America Month, in February 2011. Naturally we said yes and, in December 2010, we re-recorded ‘1968’ to a standard suitable for inclusion on the Salute website. The re-worked recording, incorporating bass and percussion, is currently available on Triple J Unearthed for your listening pleasure (www.triplejunearthed.com/Elbury). Moving into 2011, Elbury were invited to play: • Australia Day by the Bay at Moora park, Shorncliffe, • SANDBAG Inc. Unplugged Cafe Flood Relief gig, Sandgate • Granite Belt Flavours Road Show in Glenelg Street Lawn, South Bank. • Young Designers Market, South Bank • Room 60, Queensland University of Technology, Urban Village, Kelvin Grove • Red Room, University of Queensland, St Lucia • Unplugged Cafe, Sandgate. In February 2011, we returned to Black Box Recordings to track our second single, ‘The Way, the Light, the Truth, the Tunnel’. ‘Tunnel’ (as it has become known) is fresh out of production and available on Triple J Unearthed (www.triplejunearthed.com/Elbury). On the 2nd of April, 2011 we played at Room 60 at the Kelvin Grove Urban Village. One of the purposes for this gig was to audition for the Brisbane Balcony TV site (http://www.balconytv.com/brisbane). To our great excitement, Elbury were accepted to feature a song on the site!! More details to come... Through playing the Young Designers Market at South Bank, we have gained our busking license for the South Bank entertainment precinct you can expect to see more of Elbury in this area of Brisbane as we continue to hone our live show and develop new material.
