About Egoslavia
Interesting No-Wave-inflected post-punk bank from the early 1980s DC scene. Their music was dissonant and arty; they had an affected but striking stage presence. The lineup consisted of Gregg Strzempka (vocals, guitar, bass), Pam Lewis (organ, melodica, slide guitar, vocals), Christopher Anderson (bass) and Sally Ven-Yu Berg (drums, vocals). Trouser Press reviewed their EP: Singer/guitarist/songwriter Gregg Strzempka led this Washington DC quartet in sub Gang of Four/Pylon stylings. Derivative, yes, but the band is instrumentally talented, the weakest link being Sally Ven-Yu Berg's drumming, which is too often a hair off the beat. Pam Lewis's vocals and rubbery slide guitar, as well as some of the band's lyrics, showed Egoslavia's potential for transcending the sway of its influences.
