About Edino Krieger
Edino Krieger is a brazilian composer born in March 17, 1928, in Brusque, Santa Catarina. In his childhood, his father taught him how to play the violin and at age of 14, after a concert in Florianopolis, he got a scholarship of the State's governor, Nereu Ramos. In 1943, Edino went to Rio de Janeiro to study the violin with tEdith Reis in the Brazilian Music Conservatory. In the next year, he started his studies of composition with H. J. Koellreuter. One year later, he won the prize Música Viva with his composition 'Trio de Sopros' and started to be part of the group of the Brazilian composers of Dodecafonic music. In 1947 the composer got a scholarship at Beckshire Music Center, getting the prize. In the United States he studied the violin with W. Nowinsky and composition with Darius Milhaud, Aaron Copland and Peter Menin. In 1949, he was back to Rio de Janeiro, where he worked in the Roquete Pinto radio station and started writing musical reviews in the "Tribuma da Imprensa" newpaper. In 1956, Edino went to London, where he studied composition with Lennox Berkeley. He was responsable for the organization of the Orquestra brazilian National Symphonic Orchestra from 1960 to 1964. Despite his first compositions reveal influences from the romantism, his mature music features national elements and the use of the dodecaphony technique. During his life time he has been composing orchestral music, piano scores, chamber music, pieces for choir, etc.
