About Destructive liberty
Destructive Liberty were a street punk band from Carpinteria, California. They formed out of the ashes of the original carp punx, The Masses, in 2003. The original show playing line-up was Colin on guitar and vocals, Noah on bass, Mike on drums, and Jeremy on guitar. Mike left to Florida in August of 2004 and was replaced by Ryan. They played many shows in various Carpinteria backyards, including the infamous Riot at Ricky's. These Carpintera shows often included other carp bands such as Join The Dance (now known as Ability, www.myspace.com/abilityhc), The Masses ( who would play reunion shows), Ellie and the Girls, Populace Diseased, (www.myspace.com/populacediseased) Implode, (www.myspace.com/11288150), Regress, (later known as Warcharge before disbanding, www.myspace.com/warcharge) and others. They also played shows with many other 805 punk bands such as Dysfunctional Chaos, The Last Priority, The Assault, James and the Mexicans, The Disgrace and more. They recorded a demo with the help of their friend demo which they distributed for free around the area. Later they also recorded a 6 song EP entitled "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" with the help of Nathan from Join the Dance and others. The tracklisting is as follows 1. Anti-Depressant 2. Fight Back 3. Dead 4. No Room for the Youth 5. Kids from Hell 6. Carp Punx. Things were good while they were a band. There would be a backyard show every few months or so, and 25-30 kids would usually show up and have a great time. Many of those same kids would often go about 15 minutes south to Ventura to see other local punk bands or touring bands coming through such as TSOL or The Havoc. One could always count on seeing many familiar faces at any given punk show in the area. However, the Carp scene started dying towards mid 2005. Kids stopped going to shows, and many former friends stopped hanging out. Destructive Liberty breaking up in October of that year was the final nail in the coffin. While in Florida, Mike, his brother Dylan (formerly of The Masses), and Ryan recorded a few tracks as Nao-Deus (www.myspace.com/naodeus). Dylan also records his own music under the name Breathe Clouds (www.myspace.com/breatheclouds) Noah went on to the band Scurvy and The Anti-Fruits (www.myspace.com/scurvyandtheantifruits), and Colin has a solo acoustic project (www.myspace.com/colinshepard). Destructive Liberty is playing a reunion show March 2, 2007 at the Alpine in Ventura (formerly the Loft) with Dysfunctional Chaos, The Assault, and James and the Mexicans who are also reunting for the show. Go. It will be great. www.myspace.com/destructiveliberty
