About Deneir
A methodical composer and student of sound, Victor Ribadeneira finds himself at the intersection of rhythm, noise and time. Ribadeneira is the rare artist who has participated at the deepest levels of disparate underground movements. He has produced and released starkly original music with a number of iconoclastic jazz and modern classical musicians while also being presented alongside Milton Babbitt at the 13th Annual Ussachevsky Memorial Festival of Electronic Music. Growing up in the shadow of Southern California proper without adequate means of acquiring an instrument of his own, a twelve year old Ribadeneira turned his attention towards the obscure world of sound manipulation finding solace and stimulus in the works of Tod Dockstader and Luc Ferrari. Restlessly experimental he began manipulating dual cassette decks before graduating to a computer based set up. Under the abbreviated name Deneir, he has collaborated extensively with musician and producer Chris Schlarb. In 2004 Ribadeneira and Schlarb released a collaborative album which featured a contrast of their stochastic and elegiac qualities. The collaboration, flowers (eating) words, found the duo limiting themselves to solo one minute compositions. Four by Ribadeneira and four by Schlarb. The album also featured two collaborative one minute pieces which eventually led to a live ensemble with drummer Vincent Reyes called Robots and Nurserymen. The trio performed one live improvisational performance in 2005 at the Long Beach new music series NOTICE. Most recently Victor Ribadeneira has fashioned remixes for San Francisco electronic/rock duo ellul and has begun work on new full length and edited play albums featuring Weird Weeds/Arnold Dreyblatt drummer Nick Hennies, and vocalist/guitarist Brother Mitya.
