Declan and The Antics

About Declan and The Antics

With Declan Palmer’s debut album , All My Friends you get the thrills and spills of a teenage night owl, a soundtrack to the joys of all the freaked out over- indulgences of anyone hell bent on having way too much fun.Musically, in keeping with the spirit of the nightlife, it’s a genre-bending free for all disco synth wig-out . How did this all come about? Well, you can start by spending your childhood cranking up Prince, INXS, The Ramones and your favourite Eminem albums on the stereo.Next step, throw into the equation some bangin’ guitar antics on the Flying-V and lastly, for ego’s sake, document it all on your laptop. And if you’re a D.I.Y control freak and all you want to do is everything - writing, singing, programming, bass guitar and production- then so be it, you are legitimately a Smart Arse and can make a record any damn way you want. The story begins one Christmas morning when under the tree Declan found an el cheapo Mexican strat. He took to it like a duck to water and it wasn’t long before he was jamming along with the all of the dudes he ever cared about. Soon after he was adding the pyrotechnics of the microphone, a-la Steve Tyler and before you could count to three, started polluting the air with his own songs. Several school bands later hard rock/punk band The Coalition was formed and an E.P was duly recorded (a very nice blitzkrieg of Ramones style idiocy thank you very much) but due to artistic differences (he was artistic, they weren't ha ha ha) it never saw the light of day. However, no biggie, the punk rock thing was starting to wear a little thin and anyway who can be arsed arguing with the drummer about what’s cool or otherwise, he’s the drummer.Declan wanted more melody, less angst, in short, he was looking for a whole lotta sing-a-long jois de vie! Having turned eighteen and finding himself working in nightclubs(you name it he saw it) and after his shift ended, going out to more nightclubs(you name it he did it) Declan set about creating a sound track to his and his friends' late night escapades and misdemeanours. Armed with inspiration, computer, keyboard and Flying-V and along for the ride a sly grin, a keen eye for teenage foibles and a healthy dose of self deprecating wit, he bunkered down in the bedroom and set about creating his crazy world of not-so-make-believe synth pop rock. With said recordings in tow he took the lappie along to Andy Baldwin(KRAM,The Cat Empire,Dash And Will) a nice bloke who happened to be a great mixer and together they brought Declan's little Frankenstein’s to life….. Magoo (Regurgitator,Spiderbait,End Of Fashion) also got a look in and so ladies and gents, All My Friends, came into being. No need to hit shuffle on your iPod, just push play, you’re going to get what you want a bloody good excuse to get the hell out of the house, head down to your nearest pub, club or must-be-there-festival and dance till you drop. (If, on the other hand it’s Ben Lee or some other oh-so-serious heartfelt muck you’re looking for well....nu uh.) So what now? Well the album comes out June 1st and Declan has recruited a band – even sometimes a drummer – and they will be riding their bikes (with their instruments hopefully) through towns. So put away all the rubbish you couldn't care less about and head out into the night, it’s going to get crazy!
