About David Demian

David Demian is a man of singular passion: to be a friend of God. This passion has led him on an amazing journey in life and ministry. Born in Egypt of Coptic Christian parents, David was raised and active in the church from an early age. A brilliant student, he pursued medical studies and established a successful career. In 1984, as he was preparing to pursue further studies in surgery, the Lord called him to leave medicine to prepare the church to be the bride of Christ. David obeyed and quickly became a well-known leader in the Christian movement in Egypt. He trained hundreds of young professionals and university students as leaders with the vision to impact the Arab world with the gospel. But God had other plans. Having married in 1987, in 1988 he and his wife Ruth, came to Canada for three months for the birth of their first child (Ruth, herself a medical doctor and Canadian, felt more comfortable with the Canadian medical system). After the birth of their son, they meant to return to Egypt, but to David’s surprise, the Lord made it clear He wanted them to stay in Canada. After months of wrestling with God, David acquiesced, leaving behind the ministry in Egypt. It was in this time that David first met Bob Birch, who invited him to be a part of a group of committed young men who would covenant to stand together for Canada. This group later became known as Watchmen for the Nations. David then traveled with Pastor Bob for many years, serving him and walking alongside him as a spiritual son. It was in these years, that the Lord began shaping David’s love for Canada, to a point where he made a covenant with God to lay down his life and any of his own personal dreams and visions, to see God’s purposes fulfilled in Canada. In 1995 David, with the counsel and covering of a seasoned team of Watchmen fathers such as Pastor Bob, the late Dr. John White and Jim Watt, initiated “the Gathering ”. Free from planned agendas and schedules, these meetings are a place where believers can gather to worship, pray and seek the face of the Lord. In 1998, at the start of a leadership gathering in Harrison Hot Springs, Pastor Bob officially passed the mantle of leadership of Watchmen to David. Since 1998, God has led David and Watchmen team on an amazing journey of healing and reconciliation in Canada and the nations of the world. Today, David resides in Vancouver with Ruth and their seven children.
