About Dauphin Williams
Yes I have the 411 on Mr. Williams. He was born 12/02/50 in St. Louis, Mo. His mother Jessie Mae Foote-Williams was a well known jazz, blues and soul vocalist in Chicago ,Il during the late forties. Mr. Williams comes from a family of great entertainers such as Clarence Blues Man Johnson who came up through the ranks beside Muddy Waters, Memphis Slim, Howlin Wolf, and Sonny Boy Williams. His auntie Clara Foote sang gospel so did another uncle Lewis Withers. Dauphin says that if it hadn't been for Lila B. Teer, Mark Swanson and Allen Merry he probably would have become just another statistic from the ghetto of East St. Louis, IL. It was around the late sixties when a young man with his alto saxophone came to East St. Louis, and began to make not only Dauphin's dream come true but a host of other young musicians and entertainers , that young man was Allen (Death) Merry from Jackson TN. As Dauphin would later say Allen took all fifty of us and lifted our spirits using our own imagination he inspired us and through that came and reflected exellence. And this was achieved through togetherness as well indi- viduality. Mr. Williams went on to achieve his goal, as he once said I don't have to be a superstar, I just wont to do what comes natural when I hear the bet and that's sing. After the Young Diciples & Company was formed Dauphin went on to record I Love You, and I'm Your Man. He wrote People, for Tyler Ludy and That's A Good Reason for Sharon Clark & The Product Of Time. Dauphin has performed with well known entertainers such as The Dramatics, Bull & The Matadors, Bobby Womack Gene Chandler, Betty Wright, Smokey Robinson, Gene Anderson & The Inter-- national Hook-Up, Phil Perry and a host of others local and international artist especially in Seoul South Korea with Mr. Uu and in Germany while serving a tour in the United States Army. Mr. Williams now resides in southern California, he's working on several ideas for songs, and trying to update several songs that were written while with The Young Disciples that never got released. He's been writing lyrics for East St. Louis vocalist Mz. Renee Smith, and a old friend Sharon Clark who now resides in southern Illinois. Dauphin can always be reached for bookings or updates through me (Ruby Cauthen ) spokes person for Inner City Entertainment P.O. Box 27802 Santa Ana, CA. 92799-7802.
