About Dance à la Plage

Founded in early 2011, Dance à la Plage were a guitar pop band originally from Banbury, Oxfordshire. Comprised of Joe Hamilton (vocals, guitar), Harry Elkington (vocals, guitar), Tom Sullivan (bass) and Tom Howard (drums), their songs are idiosyncratic and unusual, but also exuberant and uplifting, which makes for a compelling combination. Their name – which is the French for “dancing towards the beach” – is very fitting, aptly describing the jovial, feel good nature intoned in the songs. Joe said, “An individual sound, great friendship and an ability to make each other's ideas work is really what sets us apart.” Citing influence from the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Little Comets and The Maccabees – but in truth no more than a passing resemblance – Dance à la Plage evolved a sound that is evocative and youthful. However, the maturity and craft of their songwriting reveals a richer, more sophisticated underside to their talents, which is evident in the strength of their songs. “...very catchy, you will be singing along by the end” – BBC Introducing Oxford Dance à la Plage self-released their debut EP 'A Short Stay at Clarence Pier' on Amazon on June 25, 2012, which includes their two singles ‘Matilda’ and ‘Priorities’. The EP gained a huge amount of organic support, breaking the top 10 Alternative chart on iTunes and led to the band being invited to support artists such as the 1975, Coasts, Little Comets, Stooshe and Professor Green. Dance à la Plage released their second EP titled "Hope" on April 21, 2014 on iTunes. The EP included 5 tracks. “...fresh sounding, very catchy, a great band, clearly with a bright future” – Amazing Radio After a break during 2015, Dance à la Plage returned with ‘2 2 2’, a single that gained support from the likes of, BBC Introducing Music, CLASH, Indie Air and more. In 2017, the band announced that they were splitting up. They continued to share unreleased material with fans which they had recorded over the years such as ‘Fever’, ‘Wanna Move Like You’ and ‘Give It Up’ before releasing 'The Last Dance' album.
