About Dan Lyth
Dan Lyth is a singer-songwriter originally from Dunfermline in Scotland. His self-recorded e.p 'Breathe Easy' which was comprised of songs he wrote and recorded while he studied sound engineering in Manchester was a critical success when it was originally released in 2004 and was played extensively by XFM. It has since been reissued by Moojuice Records who signed Dan in 2006. His debut album, Everything Is Simple, is out on Moojuice this year. Reviews: Dan Lyth - Breathe Easy (Review in High Voltage) Quite simply put, Dan Lyth writes beautiful music. This is quite possibly one of the most accomplished demo EP’s to hit HV recently, and is evidently the start of something quite special for this singer songwriter. With the popular hit parade clogged up with troubled chaps singing songs with their guitars, some good (Salford’s Stephen Fretwell springs to mind), some not so good (James ‘rhyming couplets are really cool’ Blunt), it is refreshing to hear some new talent, with a great deal of potential. Taken as a whole, this could be seen as equivalent to the early Belle and Sebastian EPs, with Lyth producing music that sounds like Damien Rice fronting the afore mentioned twee Scots. However, it is also striking that this is not a one style suits all kind of release, with tracks ranging from the utterly tender ‘Jericho’ and closing ballad ‘Plenty’ to upbeat numbers including ‘Crazy Dancing’ and the title track. If this young Scot-cum-Manc had greater exposure it would certainly be him on the commercial radio network every twenty minutes, and Dan Lyth would thoroughly deserve it. Here’s hoping that this potential is fulfilled. Dan Lyth - Breathe Easy (Review in Manchester Music Review) This is sensational back to basics acoustic bliss. Heavenly (apt considering he seems to be a devout Christian - Ed). From the opening trickle of solitary guitar and as Dan’s raspy folky vocal sings opening line to ‘Breathe Easy’, “I want to live like Superman”, it’s like finally hearing what Belle and Sebastian and Damien Rice as one would sound. Perfect. The luscious sounds ooze out and ‘Departure Lounge’ written for Granny Pearl to reassure her that “heaven is beautiful” is a gorgeous sentimental embrace. ‘Crazy Dancing’ is music to fall in love to: simplistic, honest and a feelgood gem. Final track ‘Plenty’ is infectious, as he sings ‘Jesus knows my name’, you can’t help smiling and thinking everyone should know this man’s name. This is aural ecstasy. A talent that will go far. Superb. MMMMM
