About DJ Awal
As dj, journalist and recording artist, Awal has been interested in world and electronic music for a long time. Awal’s style is a blend of northern African beats, oriental rhythms and pure electronic music in addition to underground dance floor tunes. In 1998 he was asked to play at ‘New Bled Vibrations Nights’ in Paris venue Divan Du Monde. Over the past 5 years Awal has played very often; Parisian venues included, L’Elysée Montmartre, Cabaret Sauvage, Divan Du Monde, Triptyque, Nouveau Casino, Batofar, and also the Techno Parade in 2003. He travels across France, regularly tours Spain, the Netherlands, Monaco or Turkey. ‘Just One Night’ is DJ Awal’s debut LP on the French label Newbled Records. The songs on the LP generally describe Awal’s many encounters during his travels around the world and feature various artists like Guem and Madioko. ‘Just One Night’ includes remixes like ‘O Divann Ustundeki Baygin Bakisin’, composed by Turkish band Baba Zula and originally released on Double Moon Records. African music out of Northern/Black Africa with oriental flavours from Egypt and Lebanon are fundamental components of the album. They are filtered through electro, house, dub, reggae and many other urban music styles.
