About DJ Tokzen
Lloyd 'Dumisani' Ncuthe aka Tokzen - originates rom the noisy streets of Diepkloof Zone 4 in Soweto and was the eldest in a family of five (5). Lloyd was very involved in the soccer field which is where he adopted his title as 'Tokzen', which in "kasie" terminology means poison. Yes, ladies and gentlemen this 29 year old was well renowned for his skills on the soccer field. But as fate will have it, the Ncuthe family was struck with the tragedy of their father (who was a taxi owner) and bread winner's tragic death at the end of a pistol during the 1994 taxi violence. As it is customary for the eldest son to take over the fathers role as the head of the family, Tokzen was faced with the responsibility of taking over his late fathers taxi business which continued for a while until the taxi violence was so explosive that the family decided to sell their taxi's for fear of their elder brothers safety. This was the turning point in Tokzen's life because he now had to find safer means and ways to provide for his family. Tokzen came to the realisation that apart from his skills on the soccer field, he was as equally gifted on the music side and from that 'realisation' the first Ncuthe Music Bar was established. And that was the birth of DJ Tokzen, who became renowned in the location for his 'one stop music stall' which featured hits like Technotronic's (Pump up the jam), Alexandra O'neal's (Criticize) etc. DJ Tokzen was able to raise enough money to buy himself a second hand hi-fi stereo which allowed him to play at bashes, nightclubs and festivals for a fee. DJ Tokzen has featured on most of the top clubs; Dreamers in Pretoria, Morgans Place in Sunninghill, Da Joint! in Yeoville, Insomia in Rosebank, Motswako, Y2K in Midrand, etc. DJ Tokzen's break came when he signed with the country's most dynamic and successful independent music company, Sheer Music. This culminated in the release of his first house compilation entitled Sheer House Volume 1. He is currently riding his success with this one until the next one.
