About Coquelicot
myspace.com/coquelicotband A little over a year may have seemed a long wait for supporters of the band, but Coquelicot has been an ensemble in the making for much longer. Damon Dennis and Kayaki Howle, the original members of the four-musician group, have been playing music together since childhood. In 2002, they expanded the lineup to include Nick Torres, and Jeremy Tow was the final addition in 2007. The chemistry was there, and the result is clearly the innovative blend of talent and creativity that so many established musicians have yet to achieve. Dennis, Howle, Torres and Tow started performing as Coquelicot in May 2007. Citing early influences such as Of Montreal, the band currently draws inspiration from bands such as Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear and Final Fantasy. Coquelicot's music is a well-considered blend of the solidarity of folk music standards and the innovation of experimental concepts. Effortlessly combining classical and traditional instrumentation (including strings, winds and percussion) with lilting, original vocal melodies, Coquelicot's sound is developed and advanced without alienating the audience.
