About Clokwork Corp

Clokwork corp was formed in the twighlight of 1992, in Newcastle, Australia. The members were all inspired by various kinds of metal fusion bands like Faith No more, Rage against the machine and Jane's Addiction. The band began exploring the fusion of musical styles, gravitating lyrically toward political and social themes, and musically into a combination of Funk, Jazz, Punk and Metal. In 1994, the Song 'Hate Machine' was chosen for "The Cat In The Hat" compilation CD which was eventually released in 1995. In 1995, Clokwork won the Newcastle University band competition, for which they were able to record and release the 'Product' Ep, under the Troy Horse Label. The Ep caught them in a hard edged period, 5 gritty cyber-punk tracks deconstructing some of the myths about modern life. After recording the Ep, band members Jamie McKenzie (Guitar) and Igor Pirozzi (Drums) decided to leave the band. John e Normal and Rhys Hotchkies recruited Peter d. Facto and Thomas L. Rock to form what became known as Clokwork The Next Generation. Clokwork TNG, rehearsed rapidly so that by mid 1996 they could perform at the 'product' CD release. The new material included John Normal playing synths and samples. The hip beats of Uncle Pete and the smoothness of Tommy Rock's second vocals moved the group into exploring a distinctly Australian style fusion of Electro, Rap, Industrial and Lounge. One of their first songs, 'Coffee & Donuts' was included in the 'Songs about other things' compilation CD, eventually released in 1997. By late 1996, they were ready to record again, eight new tracks were put to tape and combined with three electronic experiments to create the "Schnitzel". The 'Crumbed Clokwork Schnitzel' was released in 1997 along with a film clip for their cover version of 'Convoy', featuring the band members re-enacting the movie on Push-Bikes. 1997 saw the band performing some small tours and doing a couple of local supports with Def FX and opening place for Henry Rollins at the university. At the end of the year, Rhys Hotchkies sadly informed the other members of the group that he wanted to get out and settle down. At the dawn of 1998 a vigorous home recording session with Chris Davies allowed the band to put to tape all thirteen remaining songs that Rhys had contributed too. The were released as 'Clokwork Greatest Hits'. The remaining three members of the band decided to forego the search for a replacement bassplayer, in order to implement a minimalistic approach to song writing and became a three piece. The PRteam was born and continued the saga of the Clokwork Corporation (see separate artist listing).
