About Clive Langer & the Boxes

A member of Liverpool, United Kingdom-based art rock proto punks [artist}Deaf School, Clive Langer was briefly involved with Big in Japan before trading as Clive Langer & The Boxes, with the May 1979 five-track 12-inch single I Want the Whole World as the only release of the original line-up, featuring Langer (guitar, vocals), Budgie (bass, drums), Ben Barson (keys) and Bette Bright and Steve Allen (backing vocals). A revised line-up evolved into a gigging band, with the full-length album Splash emerging in 1980. By then, however, Langer had already established himself as a producer for Madness and The Teardrop Explodes. As a producer he would work for Dexys Midnight Runners, Elvis Costello, David Bowie and many others.
