About Chris Curtis

Chris Curtis (real name: Cristopher Crummy, born 26 August 1941 in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom; died 28 February 2005 in Aintree, Liverpool, United Kingdom) was the drummer of The Searchers from 1962 to 1966. He left the band that year after a serious nervous breakdown. Chris Curtis recorded some solo singles for Pye, including the dance floor banger 'Aggravation' (1966), which hit #19 in the U.K. Singles Charts. He then became a producer for the same company. That same year, 1966, Curtis formed a band called Roundabout with his brother Dave, keyboard player Jon Lord and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. This band would evolve into Deep Purple, but this was well after Chris and Dave had left the group. Later on, Chris returned to Liverpool and abandoned the music business for good. He died in 2005.
