About Cesare Tudino

Cesare Tudino was a 16th Century Italian composer who published collections of masses and madrigals. The exact date of Tudino's birth has not been ascertained, but it is estimated to be c.1530. On the title page of the early madrigal print of 1554, he is designated Cesare Tudino de Atri, which could be interpreted to mean that Atri was his location at that time or that Atri was his birthplace. Atri is located in the province of Teramo in east central Italy bordering on the Adriatic, hence the derivation of the name. The title pages of his motet and Mass books indicate that he was canon and resident composer (musicus) at the Cathedra lofAtri in 1588 and 1589. A stone inscription in the Cathedral Museum of Atri indicates that he held this position as early as 1577. It is known that for some time he was active in Rome. His death most likely to have ocurred during the latter months of 1591 or not later than January of 1592.
