About Caryl Parry Jones

Caryl Parry Jones (born 16 April 1958) is a Welsh singer-songwriter, broadcaster, actress, author and composer. One of the outstanding Welsh language artists of her generation, and a singer-composer of great versatility, she has appeared on TV in a variety of roles, as a presenter, actress, comedienne as well as a singer. Jones first came to prominence while still a pupil at Ysgol Glan Clwyd, St. Asaph, as a member of the SIDAN singing group, and their EPs and album (‘Teulu Yncl Sam’) still stand the test of time remarkably well. There followed a series of groups, notably Injaroc, Bando, Caryl a’r Band, and latterly Y Milioners, with Jones contributing most of the songs, ranging from rock, through reggae and funk, to her ‘country’ classic “Chwarae’n troi’n chwerw”. Her TV films include Gaucho (1983), The Mimosa Boys (1983), Ibiza (1986) and Steddfod, Steddfod (1989), the last two inspired by her 4 comedy TV series “Caryl” (1983-87). Jones continues to perform regularly,as well as composing, arranging and tutoring young artists, and her “Best of” CD, released in 2006 is a great tribute to her talent and lasting appeal.
