About CAUTIONHORSES

Back in 2006, guitarist Russ Arnott wanted to create a sound that was harsh but fun to listen to; something grating but still left the listener wanting to sing along. Enlisting the rhythm section-based talents of Andy Phipps and James Aslett from conspiracy math-rockers The Illuminati 3, the line-up was complete and CAUTIONHORSES was born. The band have been compared to Gang Of Four and Mclusky, and cite jerky superstars such as Hot Snakes, Talking Heads, Devo and Skeleton Key as influences. CAUTIONHORSES’ sound and aesthetic instantly jarred with the skinny-jeans super-hair scene that prevailed in their headquarters of Chichester. The band soon gathered a strong local fanbase, despite getting barred from the only rock venue in the city for being “too shouty and crap”. Upon moving along the coast to the bustling city of Brighton, CAUTIONHORSES found new venues and a scene that appreciated their own brand of angular-math-rock-disco-punk. The band recorded their first eponymous EP at Brighton’s Electric Studios - the 7 tracks recorded in a single session using borrowed equipment and a borrowed engineer. The EP was subsequently released by Worthing-based DIY label I Made This Records. The band took some time out to work on new material while Russ trained to become a physics teacher. Just before the band’s practice space (a converted stable on the site of a chainsaw depot) was due to be torn down, the band set to work on recording the ONHO EP which turned out very much like that stable- raw, lovable, pungent, aggressive and structurally unsound. Both EPs can be purchased or downloaded from the I Made This Records website www.imadethisrecords.co.uk.
