About Black Leather Machine

Black Leather Machine - biography Black Leather Machine is a Danish band without limitations. In many ways, it is a rather unusual rock band. ”To achieve just the right sound we break all rules about how an album should be “constructed”. We assemble it slowly, using pieces, which are not self-evident. Many of the songs are like puzzles where the final result is far from the point of origin. This gives the freedom to investigate new avenues and sometimes opens the door to entirely new dimensions." - Black Leather Machine Black Leather Machine has previously played concerts in, among other places, France, Germany, and the US but the four-piece has never really been completely dedicated to the music. In retrospect it was more the decadent life style, which drove the band and not the music as such. At long last, however, the band has found its way through the haze and emerged with a sound, which is hard to ignore. The story of Black Leather Machine originates in a strong friendship between the four band members. From an early age they found each other through the music and quickly forged a strong bond. The band members, Pablo de Arce, Jesper Hvid, Michael Schaumburg-Müller and Casper Sparsø have even lived together for a number of years. There, they lived in the music and engaged in the life style which is an inevitable consequence of rock. This has tested the friendship repeatedly but may also be the cornerstone in the unique fraternity. The debauched life style and the many controversies have several times nearly dissolved the band. Conversely, this has also acted as an incentive to do something apart from music. All members of Black Leather Machine today have a degree in subjects as varied as law, economy, sound design and graphic design. This is a paradox, which characterizes the band: they love the tough life and the creative expression but at the same time crave intellectual stimulation. Relatively early, music producer Thomas Troelsen got wind of the four youngsters when a demo CD landed on the mixing consol of Vega, a Copenhagen nightclub, where Troelsen was giving a rare DJ guest performance. The four-piece behaved as if they were already rock stars, despite the facts that they did not have enough songs to make an album, nor anyone on hand to publish it. Nevertheless, this was not what Thomas found intriguing. Rather it was the band’s strong image, friendship, and insatiable appetite for knowledge and new challenges. This diamond in the rough warranted further investigation. With Thomas as anchorman and with his indisputable talent for melodies, and album slowly began taking shape in the legendary Delta Lab Studio. Still, the pieces did not quite fall into place until Kenneth Bager dropped by the studio. He immediately saw an opportunity to create something unique. The combination of Thomas’s talent for melodies and Kenneth’s eccentric sense for what works was a crucial piece of the production of the debut album Rock’n’Roll Dancer. Simultaneously, the band felt it had arrived at an expression, which it could stand by. Black Leather Machine was born. The singles, Into the Fire and Sex Express, are out now and the music video for Sex Express accurately describes the raw intensity and chaotic wildness of Black Leather Machine. The debut album Rock’n’Roll Dancer is a challenging universe with several classic elements of rock music. At the same time it is clear that the musical expression and the devil-may-care attitude is far more than skin deep.
