About Billy Wilson

Natural accent hip-hop doesn’t seem to have a very big following in NZ. It seems now, that the whole world uses accents and language related to the country of the hip-hop artist. NZ is way behind the rest of the world. But not for long... The change starts NOW! For countless years Billy has sat hunched over a spotless page, staring at the ceiling and chewing on the end of an unused pen. his concerted efforts to force two words to rhyme usually resulted in one or two half-finished sentences, and pages upon pages of immensely clever doodles. Billy owns burned copies of every Dark Tower and Trillion release to date, so when the She’ll Be Right Records wagon came trundling round the corner, the avid fan didn’t hesitate to clamber on board. Fuelled by fried egg and gherkin sandwiches and cups of herbal tea Billy and Jody set about matching Billy’s note book entries with tunes from Jody’s beat catalogues, all this taking place during Billy’s holidays from Art School. ‘The Great Divide’ has emerged from this process, and has largely been shaped by the restraints of geography and time, with short bursts of concentrated writing and recording taking place every few months for over a year. Billy’s lyrics arise from knowing precisely what he does not want to say… With the success of natural accent hip-hop in Australia, The Great Divide was released with a live tour at the end of 2005 in Australia. Monumental radio play, and an overwhelming amount requests for collaborations ensure a continuous relationship with the Australian hip-hop community and media networks.
