About Betty Blowtorch

Betty Blowtorch is an all-female American hard rock band from Southern California. By the end of the 1990's, music in general was mundane to say the least, rock music in any pure form was rare. By 1998 three members of the co-ed punk band Butt Trumpet had an idea to bring rock and roll back to life, lead vocalist and bassist Bianca "Butthole" (Halstead), along with guitarist and vocalist Sharon Needles (Nijland), guitarist Blaire "N'" Bitch (Chodor) and seasoned veteran drummer Judy Molish (Cocuzza) released the 1999 Ep "Get Off" produced by Guns "N" Roses own Duff McKagan, with a mix of punchy punk rock and in your face rock and roll, the band quickly began making a name for themselves as the band to watch for. By 2001, with the debut full length album "Are You Man Enough" , Betty Blowtorch was already at cult status with their live shows that regardless of size was nothing short if having been in a huge rock arena, true entertainers as well, the band mesmerized the audience with their music as well as their rock antics. Brash and unapologetic, Betty Blowtorch was far from all girl fluff, bringing back the musicianship and attitude of the Los Angeles famed Sunset Strip,Betty Blowtorch was fun sleazy rock and roll at it's finest. Touring nationwide gained the band a huge following, however line-up changes amid a national tour might have faltered most bands, however Betty Blowtorch kept going and even saw L7 bassist, Jennifer Finch join on guitar for a short time, sadly Betty Blowtorch was unable to have a chance of re grouping with any sort of new permanent line up as bassist and vocalist Bianca Halstead was killed in an auto accident in late 2001. The outpouring for Bianca and the music of Betty Blowtorch was not easy for fans to let go of and by 2003 a full length release of rarities,B-sides, and live performances was issued in remembrance of Halstead, titled "Last Call", along with a full length documentary chronicling the quick rise and sudden tragic end to the band . Betty Blowtorch was a hard rock band which formed in 1998 in Hollywood, California, United States. The band consisted of Bianca Butthole (Bianca Halstead) (vocals, bass), Sharon Needles (guitar, vocals), Blare N. Bitch (guitar) and Judy Molish (drums). Aside from Molish, the band consisted of former members of Butt Trumpet. Former L7 bassist Jennifer Finch joined the band a few years after their formation. The band released two albums, "Get Off" (1999) and "Are You Man Enough?" (2001) before splitting in December 2001 after Halstead died in an automobile accident. A collection of rarities and live performances was released as "Last Call" in 2003. They are the focus of Antonia Scarpa's documentary film, Betty Blowtorch And Her Amazing True Life Adventures. In 2008–2009, Blare N. Bitch and Sharon Needles were both members of Los Angeles based bands, Psychostar and Suckerstar. Blare N. Bitch played guitar for an all-female Black Sabbath tribute band, Black Sabbitch while Sharon Needles and Judy Molish played in all-female AC/DC tribute band Hell's Belles. All the original band members are currently playing shows with Mia X RockNRolla, who plays bass and lead vocals for Bianca. They are working on new music as of 2021.
