About Besnyo
"Besnyo began in some dark corner of Buffalo, NY in the fall of 2004 when former bandmates guitarist/songwriter Sean Mikula and drummer Don Lavis decided to work together again. Joined by bassist Bill Fulton and guitarist Steve Nikitas, the band was drawn together by a desire to make their music distinctly hypnotic and meditative. Pulsating guitar lines, noisy reverb-drenched synths and Mikula's minimalist vocal melodies merge to form a lush sound thats far from the power chord norm. The band takes subtle cues from the likes of M83, and The Cure but pushes their material around new and unexpected corners; putting a refreshing spin on the dark, driving sounds that the aformentioned bands are known for. Besnyo's instant appeal to concert-goers in the Western NY area earned them opening slots with The Raveonettes, Rasputina, the Akron Family, We Are Scientists, and Autolux all before their debut record was even released. In November 2005, they unveiled "Look Alive", a collection of songs that represented a year of writing, and a summer of recording.
