About BeSpoken
Steve Dancey aka BeSpoken; a hip-hop lyricist originally from Barry Town, South Wales, UK and front man for alternative hip hop collective Jugganote. For over a decade BeSpoken has been writing, rapping and performing, starting off like alot of MCs making tapes to bootlegged beats in his bedroom. In the late 90's after leaving full time education and getting a job in the fast food industry he began building up his alter-ego "Shy Profit". Under his then acquired alias Shy P, BeSpoken began attending local hip hop events and getting his name and face known. At the age of 20 he was put on the "new deal for musicians" and started attending Immtech (a Cardiff music technology center) which gave him the opportunity to get some vocal coaching, practice his mic technique, start recording as well as perform at a cultural exchange in Romania. Whilst at Immtech BeSpoken (still under the name Shy Profit) recorded his first full studio track called "War" which was an anti war track completed the day before war was declared on Iraq in 2003. Battling all comers off stage gave BeSpoken the confidence to step up. After writing and rapping for a few years he started taking part in "open mic sessions" and "MC battles" in Cardiff clubs like The Toucan put on by local promoters Higher Learning . BeSpoken also continued to jam and make music with local DJs and producers such as Doggruff Beats and Diverse Concepts . In 2007 Steve was asked by an old friend and colleague if he would consider rapping for a band he had put together. Steve had recently started writing again under new name "BeSpoken" and after letting life get in the way of his music for too long agreed to join Jugganote. After 3 years working predominantly with alternative hip hop band Jugganote and 3 seperate releases BeSpoken embarked on a solo project calling on contacts built up over the previous decade to feature, collaborate and help produce "The Dialectic" Early in 2010 whilst jamming on new solo material and during many beer filled nights with friends the "Knights of Boom" collective was born. The Knights of Boom primarily consisting of BeSpoken, Pun Ra (Nic originally of The Kennedy Soundtrack), Dj Alkemy and local producer, long time associate and fellow JuggaNote member Doc BlackdaWho . The "Knights" keen to try their fresh material out live began featuring with Pun Ra at his gigs in the South Wales area in June 2010. BeSpoken's debut solo E.P "The Dialectic" is currently in development with a mixtape due to be released in May. "Knights of Boom" demo due out soon.
