About Baxxter
Baxxter were a lo-fi post-grunge thrash-pop "hurricane of guitar driven energy" from Birmingham, UK. Formed in 1997, the original line-up consisted of Greg Smith on guitar/vocals, Russell Griffiths on bass, and Kelly Parker (at the time Kelly Southern) on drums. The band developed a strong local following through their links with local acts like The Starries and Birmingham based independent label, Bearos Records. In 2001 Southern left the band to become the bassist for Twist and the line-up was expanded to include Steve Kelly on drums and Keiran Naughton on guitar. After releasing two singles the band split in late August 2002. In November 2004 the band reformed with Smith and Kelly being joined by Geordie Blake from The Starries and Stuart Mack for a couple of gigs including a Bearos Bands Reunited show which also featured San Lorenzo. Baxxter's debut 7" single "Russian Song"/"Blues Murderer" was released on Bearos Records in July 2000 (Bearos012). Their second 7", "The Girls Are Looking Good This Summer", was also released on Bearos in March 2002 (Bearos026). In December 2004 Bearos released Action:Re-action (Bearos044), a retrospective of sorts which compiled virtually all the bands' recordings between 1997 and 2002, from their first song, "I am a black faced gibbon renowned for my fighting skills" to the last recording, just called "New Song". The CD includes remastered versions of the two Bearos 7" singles, two additional tracks from the "Russian Song" sessions and the long lost "Big Wednesday" demos, Southern's last recordings with the band before she joined Twist. Four live tracks finish the CD including their riotous version of "Silent Night" from the 2000 Bearos Xmas Party.
