About Bartholomäus Weissthom

Bartholomäus Weissthoma (1639–1721) was a Bavarian organist and composer closely associated with Eichstätt. Identified in German music authority sources as a Catholic court organist (“Hoforganist”), he is best known today through the survival of his keyboard music in major anthologies: a “Lowell Mason codex” manuscript (US-NH LM 5056 / Ma21.Y2.L8) held in New Haven preserves works by many late-Baroque keyboard composers and includes Weissthoma among them. A Toccata in C major attributed to him circulates in modern editions drawn from that manuscript tradition.
