Barry Canning (born in Bishop's Falls) is a Canadian singer-songwriter from St. John's, Newfoundland. In 2001, Canning won two awards at the Newfoundland Music Awards, as Pop Male Artist of the Year and Best Pop Rock Artist. At East Coast Music Awards 2003 he was nominated for POP Artist of the year. He was the East Coast Music Award nominee for Male Artist of the Year in 2004 and Pop Artist of the Year again in 2005. He was recipient of the prestigious 2004 Arts Council of Newfoundland and Labrador Artist of the Year, He won the 2004 MIANL Socan Songwriter of the Year (for Last Man Standing) with Alan Doyle, Album of the Year for Last Man Standing, and Male Artist of the Year, winner of 2001 MIANL Male Artist of the Year and Pop/Rock Artist. He released "Soul Parade" in August 2001 to high acclaim. In 2003, "Last Man Standing", Canning's third album, was produced by Great Big Sea frontman Alan Doyle. Canning has shared the stage with many prominent songwriters and artists such as Daniel Lanois, Ron Sexsmith, Bryan Adams, Gordie Sampson, Colin James, Alan Doyle, America, Our Lady Peace, Great Big Sea, and Jimmy Rankin. Over several years, Canning brought his music to countries such as the U.S, Cuba, Norway, Spain, Bahamas, and Ireland just to name a few.
