About Balkantronika
Biography: Balkantronika is a team from Berlin, Germany. They produce music and make DJ/Live performances. At first Balkantronika was a party series, founded by DJ Beatshock, which has been taking place on a regular basis since 2003 in selected clubs in Berlin. In 2008 Datax joined DJ Beatshock and Balkantronika Productions was founded. Balkan Mashina completed the crew in 2009: Balkantronika Sound System was born. They released several tracks and made remixes for well known bands, mostly from the Balkan region. Balkantronika Sound System played in many Berlin clubs, in several cities in Germany and in Eastern Europe. In 2010 they participated in notable music festivals like the legendary Fusion Festival in Germany. Music description: The sound of Balkantronika is innovative: electronic and mostly paired with traditional Balkan Sounds. Far away from the so-called “Russian Disco”, the crew established this sound in underground avant-garde clubs where there is usually no space for folklore and traditional music. Balkantronika creates cool grooves and deep basslines and brings them in line with old traditional instruments. So a bridge between tradition and modernity is built and new music styles are developed. Styles: Balkan electro / Balkan tech / Balkan minimal / Balkan breaks / Balkan drum n bass / Folkstep Balkantronika Sound System: Balkantronika Sound System primarily consists of the DJ’s Beatshock, Datax and the Balkan-Electro Live act Balkan Mashina. Regularly guest musicians such as trumpet players, accordion players or MC’s join their performances to enrich their sound. The members of the team come from totally distinguished music styles, but all have the mission to mix the traditional with the modern. While Datax is specialized in broken beats, Beatshock focuses on 4 on the floor and traditional Balkan sounds. Balkan Mashina’s style is straight good-mood Balkan electro influenced by Holland Electro and the 80’s Synth Electro. This variety of the sound-spectrum makes Balkantronika-Sound very special and unique. Artists: Beatshock DJ Beatshock is the organizer and DJ of the party series Balkantronika. As such, he revs up the party engine with his own original musical explorations of the Balkans. He focuses especially on Balkan- Electro-Dirtybeats, an explosive mix of fast beats and indescribable Balkan flair. His long-term musical experience on the international scene and his interest in heterogeneous styles are the promises for a party to be remembered. Styles: Balkan techno / Balkan tech-house / Traditional Datax Datax - well-known in the Berlin Drum ‘n’ Bass Scene - is a DJ who mixes at the highest level. With the spin of a Vinyl he blends sounds from Africa, Balkan and Asian into his sets. Datax works together with Bymski as a producer for Unexpected Audio Productions. Dj Datax has selected Drum ‘n’ Bass records since 2001 and quickly made his mark in Berlin’s underground dance scene. Always an energetic selector he loves to have a wicked party, spinning the music as well as the audiences with his sounds. Datax has a keen ear for the classical style of clean Drum 'n' Bass and he uses it to create dark and beautiful melodies with hints of color from deep bass grooves with seamless transitions. Styles: Balkan breaks / Balkan drum n bass / Folkstep Balkan Mashina Balkan Mashina is the latest artist of Balkantronika. His origin is in the Techno scene of Frankfurt am Main/Germany where he was living and producing electro tracks since 2000. In Frankfurt he presented his productions in machine liveacts in several clubs under the name AMH. When he moved to Berlin in 2009 he started to mix his unique electro style with Balkan elements and created his very own interpretation of Balkan-Electro. In Berlin he presents his music in a lot of clubs always as a liveact with his computer and various drum machines. His style is so unique and untypical that he also gets invited to Techno parties and it only needs a few beats to convince the audience. Styles: Balkan electro Labels: Unexpected Audio Productions Balkantronika`s home-label is the Berlin digital label Unexpected Audio Productions. UAP was founded in 2007 and is operated by the DJ´s and producers Bymsky and Datax. UAP is the favourite label of Balkantronika because all the productions of the label are a combination of electronic music and traditional influences from Asia or the Balkan region.
