About Baby V.O.X

Baby V.O.X (Korean: 베이비복스) is a South Korean girl group formed in 1997. Its best-known final line-up consisted of Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Shim Eun-jin, Kan Mi-youn, and Yoon Eun-hye. The group is generally regarded as part of the first generation of K-pop girl groups in the late 1990s and early 2000s, alongside acts such as S.E.S. and Fin.K.L, and contributed to the early international expansion of Korean popular music, including activities in the Chinese market. Baby V.O.X released seven studio albums and officially disbanded in 2006. On December 20, 2024, the group reunited for a performance at the "KBS Song Festival". Baby V.O.X debuted in 1997 with an initial line-up consisting of Kim E-Z, Lee Hee-jin, Jung Hyun-jeon, Cha Yu-mi, and Jung Shi-woon. Their first single, "Hair Cut", was included on the album "Equalizeher", released on July 10, 1997. The group initially adopted a concept influenced by Western pop acts, but the debut album did not achieve commercial success. Following injuries and internal changes, Cha Yu-mi was replaced by Kan Mi-youn, while Jung Hyun-jeon and Jung Shi-woon departed and were replaced by Shim Eun-jin and Lee Gai. The group subsequently shifted toward a more mainstream style. Their second album, "Baby V.O.X II", included the single "Ya Ya Ya", which reached the top ten of Korean charts, followed by "Change". After the album’s release, Lee Gai left the group following controversy related to inaccuracies in her reported age. In 1999, Yoon Eun-hye joined the group, establishing what became its most stable line-up. The single "Get Up" achieved the group’s first number one position on South Korean charts, followed by "Killer", which also reached number one and received a major award at the Seoul Music Awards. The album "Come Come Come Baby" included the additional single "Missing You". During this period, the group increased its media presence and undertook international promotional activities, including performances in China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. The fourth album, "Why", featured the singles "Why" and "Betrayal", and the group also hosted the television program "Beautiful Sunday-Cruise to the Korea Strait". Their fifth album, "Boyish Story", released in 2001, included the singles "Game Over", "Doll", and "I Wish You are My Love". The group later released a compilation album featuring the singles "Coincidence" and "Go". "Coincidence" became their first number one single in several years and gained additional popularity through a re-release connected to the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Baby V.O.X also performed internationally, including concerts in Mongolia in 2004 and in Pyongyang, North Korea in 2003, where they were among the early South Korean idol groups to perform. In 2003, the group released its sixth album, "Devotion". The Chinese-language single "I’m Still Loving You" achieved chart success in China, while "What Should I Do" performed well in South Korea. Their seventh and final studio album, "Ride West", was released in April 2004 and featured songs in multiple languages as well as collaborations involving American artists. A track titled "Xcstasy" incorporated a previously recorded vocal by Tupac Shakur, which led to legal disputes due to uncleared sampling. The planned promotion of the single was discontinued. Another track, "Play Remix", was promoted briefly but achieved lower sales compared to earlier releases. Shim Eun-jin left the group in October 2004, followed by Yoon Eun-hye in April 2005. By mid-2005, the group had ceased activities and formally disbanded in February 2006. In August 2010, Baby V.O.X reunited for a one-time appearance on the television program "Kim Jung-eun’s Chocolate". In December 2024, the group reunited again for a performance at the "KBS Song Festival", marking their first stage appearance together in 14 years. In early 2025, they participated in television programs including "Omniscient Interfering View" and "Mr. House Husband 2". On February 13, 2025, they released the single album "New Baby V.O.X 2025", which included re-recorded versions of "Killer" and "Coincidence". The group also announced a solo concert in Seoul scheduled for September 26 and 27, 2025, marking their first such event in over two decades. In March 2026, Baby V.O.X announced a concert at the Pechanga Summit Event Center in Los Angeles on April 25, representing their first solo concert in the United States since their debut.
