Artstart is a Filipino pop/soul band formed by former Side A drummer Mar Dizon and guitarist Pido (Pido Lalimarmo). The band also featured Ella Mae Saison, but she left the band few months into debuting with them to launch her very successful solo album with Viva Records. This made her a household name dubbing her as Philippines' original QUEEN OF SOUL. Gina Respall became their female lead singer whose vocals are in the album released by Polycosmic Records in 1993. The band's musicians were Ronald Tomas (sax, vocals and flute), Junjun Perez (bass guitar) and Nato Canlas (keyboards). Nato and Ronald left and they brought in Elhmir Saison to play the keyboards until they disbanded in 1994 . The band members formed their own bands, while Gina went solo and joined musical theatre. Later on, she left for London to perform lead roles in West end productions of Miss Saigon and The King and I where she had the chance to work with West End luminaries like Elaine Paige, Marti Webb and and Hollywood stars like Stefanie Powers and Jason Scott Lee. The following also became Artstart's band members: Soc Mina, JQ and Elhmir Saison, Cooky Chua, Henry Katindig, Bolichie Suzara and Mike Calleda The original band mates (Ella May, Gina, Pido, Mar, Elhmir and Soc) reunited for a reunion concert on March 15, 2025 for the first time after 30 years. The concert was successful that fans asked for more concert dates. The current set up brought a different group dynamic having both Ella May and Gina together for the first time in ArtStart's history .
