About Art Sorority for Girls
My real name is Daoud, thanks to an Egyptian grandfather and a jazz song. I can’t say it the way Egyptians do, but it has the same vowel sound as “Raoul” (emphasis on the second syllable). I was born in New York in 1984, and have been living in Washington D.C. since early 2011. I started performing as Art Sorority for Girls when I was about eighteen (my high-school girlfriend Hannah thought of the name). Since then I’ve rotated through a half-dozen different lineups, from solo act to power-pop sextet and back again. I used to make home recordings and sell them as CD-Rs; those are still floating around if you know where to look. These days I’m promoting the first Art Sorority album, working on songs for the second one, and looking to play as many affordable, all-ages shows as I practically can. For booking, press and other logistical matters, hit me up at daoud (at) artsorority.com. You can also find me on Twitter if that’s your game. Or, if you dare, you can ask me anything.
