About Antonio Rodríguez De Hita

Antonio Rodríguez de Hita (Madrid, 1724 - Madrid, 1787) was a Spanish composer of the Baroque era. He was maestro de capilla at Palencia Cathedral (c1740- c1757) and at the Madrid Convento Real de la Encarnación. His works include four zarzuelas (1768-70), which helped establish a native Spanish opera, much church music and some instrumental pieces. His treatise (1757) reflects his progressive approach.
