About Anh Tu
Anh Tú (born Lữ Anh Tú, April 16, 1950, in Bảo Lộc, Lâm Đồng Province, Vietnam) was a Vietnamese singer known for his smooth interpretations of international pop standards (especially French songs) as well as Vietnamese sentimental music. He graduated from Bảo Lộc High School in 1968 and came from a musical family. His father, Lữ Liên, was a member of the comedic music group AVT and also wrote Vietnamese lyrics for many foreign songs. Several of his siblings also became singers, including Tuấn Ngọc, Bích Chiêu, Khánh Hà, Thúy Anh, Lưu Bích, and Lan Anh. Anh Tú began his singing career in 1969 shortly after finishing high school. Together with his sister Khánh Hà, he auditioned to perform at American clubs in Saigon, where they sang “What Now My Love” as a duet and were accepted. In 1970, he joined the band The Blue Jets with Khánh Hà and Thúy Anh. Two years later, the three siblings formed a vocal trio called Thúy Hà Tú, which later evolved into the group The Uptight. In 1975, Anh Tú left Vietnam and settled in the United States, where he reunited with his siblings to reestablish the band Uptight. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the group expanded to include Lan Anh on drums and Lưu Bích as a lead and backing vocalist. Anh Tú remained with the band until it disbanded in 1993, after which he continued performing as a solo singer. He later became known for his gentle renditions of international songs (particularly French repertoire) alongside many well-loved Vietnamese romantic songs. Anh Tú passed away at 8:30 p.m. on December 3, 2003, at UCI Medical Center in Southern California, two days after suffering a stroke.
