About Andrzej i Eliza

Polish folk-rock band, founded in 1971. Andrzej Rybinski (guitar, flute, vocals), then a member of Dwa plus Jeden, met Eliza Grochowiecka (vocals, guitar, percussion) in early 1971. In March same year the two, assisted by Arkadiusz Zak (bass) and Zbigniew Holdys (guitar) produced first radio recordings as Grupa Elizy Grochowieckej. Marek Zienkiewicz (piano) joined in 1972. Band’s name changed first to Eliza i Andrzej, and then eventually to Andrzej i Eliza. Andrzej i Eliza produced mellow easy-listening folk and country influenced songs dominated with Grochowiecka’s nightingale singing, which led to numerous successful festival appearances during mid-70s. They enjoyed steady chart success between 1972 and 1980, ‘Czas relaksu’ (‘Relax Time’, 1974) and ‘Ballada o butach’ (‘Ballad About Boots’, 1978) being biggest hits. Basically a duo, Andrzej i Eliza used up to 20 instrumentalists backing them during ten years of their career. Unfortunately, the union broke-up in July 1981. Rybinski enjoyed further success as a solo artist at The National song festival in 1983.
